DON'T LET THE VASELINES SLIP BY!
I'll tell ya, some blog titles just write themselves. But seriously, The Vaselines are coming to Metro for their first ever Chicago show. Oh heck, it's their first Midwest show! You might remember them from the late 80s/early 90s when a little known musician by the name of Kurt Cobain mentioned that The Vaselines were his "most favorite songwriters in the whole world." He even included a cover of their song "Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam" on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged in New York album. Nirvana covered two more of their songs, "Molly's Lips" and "Son of a Gun" on their album Incesticide. There have been worse endorsements.

Unfortunately, The Vaselines broke up in 1990, shortly after the release of their first album. Fortunately, they got back together in 2008 because that's what bands do. On May 5th, to celebrate their reunion, Sub Pop will be releasing Enter The Vaselines, which includes their two EPs, one LP, and a bunch of unreleased demos and live tracks. You can also hear some of their stuff for free, such as the three songs that Nirvana covered, on their Myspace page.
So are The Vaselines finally here to stay? Who knows? But why risk not getting tickets for this very rare, possibly once in a lifetime show? After all, they're only playing six dates in the US. They'll be here on Saturday, May 16th and your shot at getting tickets starts this Saturday at noon.
