People grow heads of hair all the time for charity and here at Metro we applaud those folks for their time, energy and effort. Sadly, every year in the United States, facial hair is grown for no reason whatsoever except to look "good," "tough" and/or to let the world know you're too lazy to shave. It doesn't have to be this way anymore...

The kind folks at Chicago's Mustaches For Kids have rasied nearly $10,000 for Chicago's oldest boys and girls club, Off The Street Club, through various fundraisers and mustache growing competitions. "Growers" collect pledges and secure donations during a 4-week period in which a mustache is grown, cared for and eventually loved. On Monday, December 18 in Smartbar the final event, Stache Bash 2006, will be held and champion mustaches will be honored. Categories include Top Fundraiser (“Abe Froman of Mustache”), Best Mustache ("Sweetest Stache”), Worst Mustache ("Honorable Mention”), Best-Fitting Mustache (“Mr. Mustache”) and Mr. Congeniality ("Mr Congeniality"). Enjoy DJ sets by Bald Eagle and Spencer Lokken (of Orchard Lounge) throughout the night.
