NOUVELLE VAGUE SEEMS VERY FAMILIAR

Metro's not known for having cover bands, but there comes a time when our club is quite OK with stepping out of the comfort zone of "original music." That time just happens to be this Wednesday night when France's Nouvelle Vague returns to Chicago and performs at Metro. The group covers late 70's/early 80's post-punk (Joy Division, Buzzcocks) and classic alternative (Bauhaus, Echo & The Bunnymen) songs in a way that truly accomplishes the band’s mission of “re-creating, re-arranging and re-evaluating” their song choices. Consider them the ultimate indie rock tribute band if you must. Distorted guitars are out, classical guitars are in. Yells and screams are turned into beautiful female voices. Drum beats are simmered down to soothing background percussion. Expect to hear songs from the band's highly acclaimed S/T debut as well as the recently released Bande A Part on David Byrne's Luaka Bop record label.
