MEET THE STAFF | BRAD OWEN

Brad Owen...the man, the myth, the legend. If you've been in Smart Bar, you've seen Brad doing his thing - maybe working the lights or maybe escorting a DJ in the sound booth or maybe spinning records himself or maybe, just maybe sitting back, having a drink and taking in the music he booked for the room. Sadly though, Brad is leaving our family and during his last week of work with us we wanted to pay homage and give you, the reader, his words. Don't worry though, Brad's only going across town to work for a Chicago-based booking agency, so you'll surely see him and most likely in Smartbar. Thanks for everything, Brad!

What do you do at Metro?
I am the music director of Smart Bar, plus I do a few shows in Metro.

How long have you worked here?
I’ve been here for four years and three months.

What's your favorite Metro memory?
Drinking heavily with Ian McCulloch, four days on the road with Peter Hook, having Rhythm & Sound/Basic Channel play Smart Bar, etc etc etc etc. There are far too many fond memories of this place, the performers, and the people who work here.

What’s in your cd player/ on your iPod right now?
The Dears’ new album Gang Of Losers...also Jose Gonzalez Veneer and Kompakt’s Total 7 Compilation.

What’s something people don’t know about you?
Everyone knows everything about me...I’m an open book. And Bald Eagle is my favorite DJ ever.
