RECOIL ADDED TO GARY NUMAN SHOW

If you weren't already planning on seeing Gary Numan's October 26th performance at Metro, you now have an even bigger incentive to get your tickets. Recoil, the musical project established by ex-Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder, has just been added to the lineup.

Recoil, an electronic experimental act established by Wilder in the '80's, is a definite departure from the traditionally pop-oriented sound of Depeche Mode. As Recoil, Wilder releases many recordings, but typically never leaves the studio to perform. That's exactly what makes his most recent 'Selected' Events Tour, in support of his new album (also titled Selected) so unique. Though the 'Selected' Events Tour has already featured shows worldwide, Recoil's stop at Metro will likely be the only collaboration with Numan, which makes this performance a unique not-to-miss experience.

If you’re a Four Tet enthusiast, you’ve probably already heard the news. However, if you’re a fan of folk, electronica, techno, and all of those I-just-can’t-characterize-them-so-check-out-their-MySpace artists, I’d like you to meet Four Tet.

Also known as Kieran Hebden, Four Tet recently released a 12” for his single, “Angel Echoes” in the UK and Europe. The release also includes two remixes, one by Caribou and the other by John Hopkins. Unfortunately, those in North America will have to wait until August 3^rd to get it. If you'd like to hear the song now though, check out this trippy video for “Angel Echoes”:

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS PLAY BENEFIT SHOW

Chicago's own, The Smashing Pumpkins, will be in the flesh at Metro next Tuesday, July 27, playing a benefit concert for Madina Lake bassist, Matthew Leone.

Leone was hospitalized earlier this month after being brutally beaten in a street attack. Now, still in the hospital, Leone has no health insurance and is facing a mound of medical expenses. It's during these times that the music community has to look out for its own and that's exactly what we're doing. All ticket proceeds from the concert will go toward the Matthew Leone fund at Sweet Relief.

Tickets to the event go up for raffle on Wednesday, July 21st at noon. Read on for details:

There will be a raffle for tickets. Individuals can enter the raffle as many times as they wish for $10 each entry. A majority of the venue will be sold to raffle winners. Each winner will receive two tickets to the concert. Tickets are not transferable and winners must show ID matching their raffle entry. Raffle tickets will be available for sale through Metro website only beginning Wednesday July 21 at noon. The raffle will end at 2pm on Saturday July 24, 2010, and winners will be notified via email at 5pm on Saturday July 24, 2010.

There will also be a very limited amount of balcony VIP tickets put onsale for those fans who want to make a larger donation and ensure entry into this special event for $100 each. Balcony VIP tickets will go on sale Wednesday July 21 at noon.

Additionally, a limited amount of soundcheck VIP tickets will be available for $500 each. The soundcheck VIP event (approximately 30 minutes), set for the late afternoon, includes a meet and greet/photo with the Pumpkins and merchandise items, plus a seat at a table in the balcony for the show; this package is priced at $500 per person. Soundcheck VIP tickets will be available Wednesday July 21 at noon.

All proceeds from the raffle and concert will go to the Matthew Leone Fund at Sweet Relief. Sweet Relief Musicians Fund is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. FEAR FACTORY UPDATES

In a recent interview with LA Music Blog, Burton C. Bell, the frontman of the metal band Fear Factory, talked about what was next for the band: a nationwide US tour immediately followed by an exhausting stint around Europe, including several festivals. Fear Factory enthusiasts will be excited to hear that Bell also mentioned talk of a new album, though he did not give any additional details. With no further info, including a recording or release date, fans will just have to wait and see what musical direction Fear Factory travels next. For those unfamiliar with the band's sound, make sure to check out the music video for their latest single, titled "Fear Campaign", off the band's 2010 album, Mechanize.

In the wake of Dominique Young Unique's cancelled tour dates, we can still be psyched about a new addition to the June 26th One Night Stand lineup. Parisian duo, Acid Washed, will be bringing their French-inspired electro stateside to help us celebrate One Night Stand's ONE YEAR STAND.

Japanese experimental band Boris have teamed up with The Cult's gigantic-voiced frontman, Ian Astbury, to record a four track EP entitled BXI. Astbury lends his vocals on three of the four songs while Boris' Wata sings on the fourth track, a cover of the Cult's famed song "Rain." The EP will be released in September on both CD and 12" vinyl by Southern Lord Records.

THE WONDER YEARS SIGN TO HOPELESS RECORDS

"I'm not sad anymore, I'm just tired of this place..." is the opening line of Philadelphia natives The Wonder Years' newest release, The Upsides. With their latest announcement, I don't believe the band has much to be sad about these days. After years of countless touring and several releases on No Sleep Records & Run For Cover Records, the Philly boys have jumped ship and signed to Hopeless Records, home of one of the scene's largest bands, All Time Low. Apparently the final details of the signing went down over a vicious pancake eat-off. Here's a video of the action unfolding:

Luckily the eat-off ended well and Hopeless will re-release The Upsides in early fall with updated artwork and four new tracks: one full band, one acoustic, an acoustic rendition of "Washington Square Park," and a re-worked version of "Logan Circle."

We'll be airing the game live on the huge screen and helping us celebrate will be Jon Fratelli of Scottish indie-pop trio, The Fratellis. Not familiar? You might ask yourself, "What makes a music video good?" Well, I have four words for you: boy band, aliens, and lasers. In fact, if you throw in a floating head with a bad temper, you've just made my list of things to do today. The guys from Hot Chip clearly know how to make an awesomely bizarre music video, because they got together with British comedy writer and actor Paul Serafinowicz and did exactly that.

The band's video for, "I Feel Better" has the ability to make just about anyone feel great. The boy-band parody is completely off-the-wall. And with character looks based on Mr. Burns from the X-Files episode of the Simpsons, how on Earth can you go wrong? FROM THE STREETS: US AIR GUITAR

Air Guitar. Who knew it could ever be taken seriously enough to have a championship held in its honor? Well someone was smart enough to realize that people cared enough about the “sport” and here we are today with the US Air Guitar Chicago Regional that was held at Metro last night. Hosted by Bjorn Turoque (aka Dan Crane, one of the stars of the documentary “Air Guitar Nation”), the night was full of thrusting, streamers, booze, high scoring, and most importantly “Air-tastic Rock N’ Roll.”

With past Chicago reigning champions in the house and a mix of new comers/seasoned veterans, it was a tough choice for the judges and the Metro crowd to crown a new Chicago representative for the upcoming National Championships (held in New York on July 22nd). When all was said and done, 2-time Chicago Champion Nordic Thunder was crowned the 2010 representative after an “Air-Off” with Sanjar The Destroyer (aka “STD”). Nordic shredded his way back to the top after being on the injured list in 2009. We hope he does Chicago proud at Nationals.

Air Guitar, whether you deem it a real “sport” or not, is most certainly a sight to be seen live at least once in your life…

Have you ever listened to a song and could just see the music video in your head? The videos a lot of bands choose aren't always as cool as what we might imagine, but sometimes they totally hit the mark. The Invisible's "Jacob and the Angel" just happens to be one of those videos. Directed by Sam Walker, the video is absolutely awesome and even blew the guys from The Invisible away.

Now, with the release of their music video for "This Too Shall Pass," the band has once again thrown down the creative gauntlet. LIL LOUIS BACK WITH BISMARCK REUNION

Lil Louis has been bringing a beat for ages. The producer and DJ has worked with and created some of the most well known sampling and dance tracks around. Remember "French Kiss"? If you're a little too young to have been hitting the dance floors in the early 90's you might have heard it sampled from artists like Ed Rush and Lil' Kim.

ROCK REMEMBRANCE

This Friday, Chicago power pop trio, The Ivorys, are taking to the Metro stage to do what they do best: rock. This time around, the reason for the rock is a little different. The guys are playing for their late friend, Columbia College photographer and music lover, Jay Polhill. And what better way to celebrate the life of someone than to immortalize them in the their favorite music?

The Ivorys would love for everyone to come out and celebrate with them and other Chicago bands: Glasko, The Kickback (who is celebrating their EP release), and The Streets on Fire. Some of Jay's photography and poetry will be on display as the bands tackle an awesome set, so stop by and enjoy a little rock remembrance. WE'VE GOT GOOD FEELINGS

When we look at some record labels, we automatically expect awesomeness. Beach House label Carpark for example has wooed us with awesomeness lately, from dance-induced experimental to ambient shoegaze. There's no exception when it comes to the label's newest signing, Light Pollution. These guys are nothing less than spectacular.

We're not the only people loving their style. Pitchfork posted a review for Light Pollution's newest single, "Good Feelings," (off Apparitions out June 15) and it's definitely worth checking out. Also worth checking out? Light Pollution at Metro with Miike Snow. Tickets are still available for the all ages show on April 4th so don't miss out.

BLACK SANDS OUT TODAY

Simon Green, aka Bonobo's, fourth studio album, Black Sands drops today. Pick it up and learn those songs quick though, 'cause our favorite primate-inspired DJ will play his first show supporting Black Sands here at Metro on Thursday, April 1 joined by The Invisible and Deanna Devore.

Later that night, Bonobo will also head down to Smart Bar for a special DJ set. Tickets are available now for the ages 18 and over Metro show, but if you're 21+, grab a combo ticket for admission to both Metro and Smart Bar.

Not only is he already into some pretty respectable rock music, but he's getting an early start on a career in the music biz. BRMC PUTTING SPRING IN OUR STEP

By now we're probably getting really tired of the Chicago winter. The snow, the slush, and the temperamental temperature. Show of hands: how many of us have ever shred a little air guitar in our bedrooms? All of us? That's what I thought. Now, how many of us have won a world championship for it? The US Air Guitar Championships are here to make your dreams of becoming an air rock god or goddess a reality. Kenny Vasoli has been keeping busy since the 2008 "break" of The Starting Line. Lately, the east coast singer has been rocking faces clean off with his new project, Person L. If you haven't heard them, take a listen. The indie rock sound had us doing a double take at first, but we're into it. The guys just released a new video for their aptly titled single, "Goodness Gracious".

Catch the Person L on Copeland's farewell tour this spring, which hits Metro March 14th. Get tickets for the all ages show here, but be warned: proper face protection necessary else it may be rocked clean off.

OK Go - "This Too Shall Pass"

The band that brought us daring treadmill choreography in 2006 is back with another video masterpiece. OK Go just released a video for their new single, "This Too Shall Pass" on Monday. The video, which features an amazing Rube Goldberg Machine, has already reached an awesome 2.6 million views on YouTube.

Aren't sure what a Rube Goldberg machine is? Think Mousetrap: pulleys, levers, and bowling balls rolling at just the right speeds to tip over baskets and capture mice. The machine in the 3:53 minute video took OK Go and guys from Syyn Labs several months to make. Talk about a level of dedication. Check out the video above and gets tickets (on sale NOW) for the just announced OK Go show at Metro on April 17th. We don't know if there will be any treadmills or Rube Goldberg machines, but grab your tickets to the all ages show just in case.

SCOTT LUCAS COMES HOME, STARTS TALKING

HAMMERFALL ON ICE

Mix Swedish metal band Hammerfall with, I dunno let's say the '06 & '10 gold metal winning womens Swedish curling team and what do you get? The stuff of legend. Hammerfall's video for "Hearts on Fire" pits the band against their sweeping countrywomen in fierce curling combat. Trust me, curling has never been this intense.
